Technical Bulletin

Manual (HVLP and Trans Tech* 522 T-T uses 510/513 needle/nozzles)

*Replacement for the DeVilbiss Compact Full-Size manual spray gun top assemblies*

DeVilbiss has ended production of their Compact Full-Size spray guns and have provided an equivalent replacement with this new lineup of DeVilbiss Advance HD spray guns, which is a 'sibling' of the Compact Family.

The Advance HD shares the major wearable components with the Compact Full-Size including air caps & nozzles to make conversions easy as customers will achieve identical spray performance as their current Compact guns.

  • All active Compact Full-Size top assemblies have been given an equivalent replacement Advance HD gun kit.
  • All inlets on the Advance HD guns match sizing and are identical to the Compact allowing customers to use current cups, fluid & air hosing, disposable cup adaptors, QDs, and swivel fittings.
  • All Advance HD suction gun kit configurations include 1qt. aluminum siphon cup assembly.
  • Stainless Steel tips, needles, and fluid passageways come standard.

Description:

The DeVilbiss Advance HD Gravity Feed Gun utilizes a wide range of ConventionalHVLP, and Trans-Tech air caps to provide exceptional atomization for coating wood, metal, plastic, ceramic and composite substrates with most types of solvent, waterborne, high solids and 2K materials.

  • Conventional is the most established method of air atomization used on "conventional" spray guns, using relatively high velocity compressed air to provide good atomization of the sprayed material. However, this process results in low paint transfer efficiencies due to the 'bounce-back' and 'overspray' generated. Air Cap Pressure is typically 30-40psi.
  • HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) is a "compliant" atomization method using larger compressed air volumes at lower pressures to atomize the coating. It has a much higher transfer efficiency than Conventional. However, the droplet size produced tends to be slightly larger, sometimes resulting in lower quality finish. Air Cap Pressure is 10psi in compliance with global environmental legislation to provide greater than 65% transfer efficiency.
  • Trans-Tech (compliant) atomization was introduced by DeVilbiss to combine the benefits of both Conventional and HVLP atomization methods. Trans-Tech utilizes more compressed air energy for the atomization process producing much higher Transfer Efficiency of coating material than Conventional. This 'complies' with global environmental legislation by being able to transfer at least 65% of the sprayed material to the component. Air Cap Pressure is typically 20-45psi. HVLP has mostly been replaced by DeVilbiss Trans-Tech Atomization in most applications due to its superior quality finish.

Air Caps are compatable with all Advance HD standard and hardened fluid nozzle sizes.

Advance HD’s unique high capacity airflow and outstanding atomization characteristics are combined with a separate “balanced” air valve design for lighter trigger pulls to provide an unrestricted flow of compressed air through the gun body; this coupled with light, feel-right comfort is an unbeatable combination. Advance spray guns are ideal for small operations or high volume spraying, with the added bonus of instantly improved finishing productivity.
